Victoria Stone: Marketing is Always a Team Effort

Victoria Stone leads the marketing efforts at the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). Over the past year her team has launched a new information service to their members: DataDiscovery. The ads that supported that launch won a 2022 Medigy HITMC Award and Stone herself won the Award for Rising Star of the Year. Stone was quick to point out that even though there is just one name on the award, it truly is an acknowledgement of the team at MGMA.

We sat down with Stone to ask her about the Awards and what’s next for MGMA.

What did winning the Rising Star award mean to you?

While there’s just one name on the award, it truly is a team award. We have a very robust, talented group of marketers at MGMA. Top notch. I have the humble role of providing vision, guidance, and encouragement to the team. The team then takes that guidance and vision and produces fantastic creative. They execute on our campaigns and initiatives. I think that is what led to being honored with that award.

The team continues to do great work and you’ll see some great things from us.

You also won an award for your DataDiscovery ads. Can you describe that solution and the ads that won?

MGMA is known for providing fantastic data sets in the marketplace. DataDiscovery is an opportunity for practices to see industry data alongside their own data. It gives them a great visual so they can be agile in their marketplace. Where it really hits home for them is in finance and operations.

We found a slogan that worked: Discovering a whole new world of data. We decided to use worldly images that depicted data in a very fun, but eye-catching way. We picked sites like the Parthenon, the Taj Mahal, and the Golden Gate Bridge. It really has run true for our customers who immediately understood what that product was about.

The team did a nice job. It was a combination of our marketers and our creative team and brainstorm sessions. It really came together. We’re very proud.

What’s on the agenda for you for the rest of the year?

MGMA will continue on the idea that we need to be really good communicators to the marketplace. We feel like we have a duty to the marketplace to be thought leaders and to bring to the industry the information they’re seeking, especially when it comes to data, world class conferences, etc.

From marketing perspective, we’re reaching those existing audiences, but also looking to new audiences to introduce them to what MGMA has to offer – to educate them on the resources that they may not know exist today in the marketplace.

What can we expect from MGMA’s fall conference – MPEL?

Our Medical Practice Excellence Leaders (MPEL) conference for 2022 will be in October in Boston.

We’re very excited for the increased attendance. We’ll have very robust speakers. We have a fantastic dynamic exhibit hall, great sessions, breakout sessions, and the opportunity to earn CEU credits. That’s what people have come to expect from our annual events.

We have many folks who come back again and again for the networking and to see their friends and colleagues. But it also is an opportunity for new folks to understand opportunities for them in the marketplace, meet new people, and certainly get their education to help them with their daily lives.

This one in particular is going to be a standout when it comes to understanding leadership in the healthcare industry. We invite one and all.

Is this an exciting time to be in healthcare marketing?

It is an exciting time to be in healthcare marketing. Being a marketer, especially here, in a world that is so technology based…we could read white papers and case studies every single day and still not have a hundred percent of the pulse of what’s going on.

I think that’s the benefit of being a part of our organization. We really have a focus on education and understand what’s happening in our world. We have a lot of opportunity with the leadership at MGMA to explore creative ideas and do something new. We’re very fortunate in that regard.

Closing Thought

I really enjoyed speaking with Stone at the MGMA offices in Denver, CO. The office has a “startup” vibe to it, which was an appropriate setting given that we were talking about their DataDiscovery product. What struck me most about our conversation was how she kept giving credit to the team at MGMA for all the fantastic work and results that have been achieved. Try as I might, Stone refused to take personal credit for winning the Rising Star of the Year Award. Marketing is truly a team sport for her.
